VMAS 2013 Red Carpet Fashion

Taylor Swift possibly kicking Harry Styles where it hurts. Lady Gaga’s mediocre comeback performance of her new single and first televised performance since she broke that painful hip of hers. Oh, and Miley Cyrus pretty much ruined everyone’s year, stripped to a few pieces of latex, suggestively rubbed herself with a foam finger (Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Will Smith’s unanimous family reaction to this was priceless btw) and twerked all over married man/sleaze ball Robin Thicke. And that folks pretty much sums up this year’s VMAs.
Although Miley may have literally lost any respect she was rightfully earning with her more than catchy number 1 hit ‘We Can’t Stop’ and garnering equally credible fashionable attention from her edgy new look, there were a few noteworthy looks on the red carpet from the music industry’s leading men/boys. I.e The night wasn’t a total bust.
We of course had the ever on trend Smith family, with father Will and his minimal black layering being completely outshined by son and rising star/style icon Jaden Smith also sporting minimal black layering but with a sleek, cool and confident twist.
Speaking of confident, 2013’s biggest breakthrough act and ridiculously trend savvy gent Macklemore did not fail to disappoint when it came to his impeccable red carpet look donning a slim fit mint green suit. Paired with some form of vintage, racoon-like fur wrap. What’s not to love?
Glee’s Darren Criss donned a mulberry colour blocked suit complete with a black shirt, a blue tie and a white silk pocket square. A modern, youthful and effortless take on a traditional and classic award ceremony number. Only Darren Criss can turn up in something so similar to Tim Burton’s The Joker and not resemble the Dark Knight’s crazed clown in any shape or form.
2 Chainz rocked Versace on Versace on Versace on Versace. No more needs said.
Rapper Wiz Khalifia kept it street with a Boy London snapback, a black leather biker jacket, light denim skinnies and red leather hightops.
Other rapper A$AP was possibly my favourite look of the night, looking rather high-end, rather avant garde and rather futuristic in an elegant high collared shirt, a bold leather belt, some skinnies and some leather monochrome loafers.
Futuristic also arrived in the form of galagtic dapper pair Daft Punk who rocked their space age metallic motorcycle helmets and matching gloves paired with Saint Laurent suits and some sparkly boots.
Here endeth the lesson. Oh and Miley…for shame girl.
