TOPMAN DESIGN AW13: London Collections: Men

Tue. 8. Jan.
Topman Design took over the Topman Show Space located on the Ground Floor of the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street yesterday. As the second season of London Collections: Men kicked off in an array of neutral and contrasting vibrant tones as Autum/Winter 2013 rears its eclectic influence.
A blank canvas was the setting with tiered seating and centred, illuminated cylinder beams acting as the main point of catwalk lighting as Topman’s fresh faced and highly sculpted cheekbone models walked full circle for the premium, high-end AW13 line.
What went down: Emphasis on coats. Fur collars. Heavy parkas. Military/Utilitarian vibe with a hint of European youth culture described as ‘the early gentleman explorer’. Keeping with the youthful tone ensured cropped fitted woollen blend pea coats and double breasted detailing as the neutral tones flowed within a sea of ivory, off-whites, clean whites and stone shades. Before pops of vibrant and striking burnt orange, dusty peach and grape and cherry red took over with a canary yellow knit appearing in one particular look. Closing on a simplistic black ensemble.
Noteworthy Mentions: The key was in the detailing for Topman Design AW13 and of course in the Autumnal layering. The oversized 80s inspired baggy suit trousers were accentuated through the use of careful and strategic layering on top successfully creating oversized yet fitted ensembles. Whilst accessories such as gold strapped rucksacks, ecru military boots, hats and neck scarves served to excite and entice the garments on display.
Beyond’s Best Bit: Favourite looks came in the form of the embellished snowflake luxury patterned trench coats in a heavy wool blend in a stone shade and a slightly darker, slightly longer, oversized alternate of the charcoal variety. If the world ‘majestic’ could be bottled and then woven into a coat…this coat would be it. The cropped pea coats were also a stunning surprise featuring an avant garde vibe with a welcome futuristic twist.
Within seconds of the shows opening look, Topman Design was trending worldwide on Twitter and even featured a live streaming app on Topman’s official website in which users could rotate the camera angle for their viewing pleasure.
The Topman Design high end collection is now sold as wholesale and is also available from London Oxford Circus, Soho New York and Chicago Flagships as well as online at Topman.com.
