The Origin of the Metallic Stud

There is literally no escaping the wave of stud detailing currently taking the world by storm. What started as simple touches here and there has evolved into covering every single area of the latest stylish garments in store and online. Adding unique customisations transforming on trend looks tailored to the innovative individual. The task is at hand is simple, I want to find out why.
Gloves. Snap back caps. Shorts. Denim Jackets. Cable knit sweaters. Sunglasses. T-shirts. Shirts. Shoes. High-tops. Boots. There is no item too big or too small in which this studding epidemic can’t overcome. It is one of the few outbreaks I’m hoping there is no cure for. It’s like a friendly cancer.
But where did this obsession with the spiked, studded and metallic amplification of all clothing originate from? No one really knows. I’m joking. I have the slight suspicion this one is on the bloggers. More specifically, the DIY bloggers. Providing the perfect example of how fashion bloggers the world over can influence modern day trend forecasting on a global scale at the touch of a button. Studs and Pearls being a fine example.
DIY Bloggers have showed how easy and accessible studding could be to the average Joe and thus sparking a chain reaction in all things stud related. Taking their inspiration from the catwalk collections of Givenchy and Versace alike, the creative DIY community of the blogosphere networks began creating runway alternatives at a marginally substantial fraction of the price.
The result, the total domination of the world via the use of studs. Naturally, the high street havens were quick to react on a mass scale with everything in sight now containing some form of alternative add-on of the studded variety. Again, we are not complaining. Customised converse are my current favourites along with the equally amazing studded snap back caps. It’s fresh. It’s vibrant with a hip-hop vibe working best styled up alongside more formal attire such as skinny fit trousers and contrasting Oxford shirts so as not to take away from the intricate stud effect. One can even stud one’s collar of said Oxford shirt and give it the extra stud mileage.
Zara are jam packed with stud infused designs. River Island are in a similar state. H&M touched on the craze last year with their Versace for H&M designer collaboration and Topman are all over the stud-fest. One place in particular to pick up certain unique pieces is at Asos Marketplace under the colourful collection of Appraised. Their urban caps with religious cross detailing, dip-dyed denim waistcoats and phenomenal reworked Levi denim jackets are just some of my personal highlights available.
Not to mention Rihanna, Rita Ora and Jessie J love a good studding session and if it is good enough for Rihanna, Rita Ora and Jessie J, it’s good enough for me. P.s If you did not enjoy reading this article, take a shot of Jack every time I mentioned the word stud and I think you might just change your tune.
