The MET Gala 2013. PUNK:Chaos to Couture
Lookbook
Safety pins, studs, rips and tears were finally given the red carpet treatment they deserve this week as the MET Gala opened its doors in celebration of all things punk in conjunction with the MET’s Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit. Safety pin blazers, studded boots, artistic graffiti print ties and leather fringed bow ties were notable highlights with a touch of tartan and a hint of black mesh thrown in for good measure as A-List celebs rocked the red carpet. With a major emphasis on all things Givenchy we might add.
Although you would expect the men to come out in force in their punk options for the evening, but unfortunately they played it safe with the majority opting for the simple and, shall we say, dull approach. However some modern and artistic gents did make an effort with a personal enjoyment found in Andrew Bevan’s Moschino graphic graffiti print suit with a Sex Pistol twist complete with punk badge detailed skinny tie. Marc Jacobs landed the worst dressed at the star studded bash, looking like he had turned up for a weekend stay in a purple polka dot Comme De Garcon get-up (I.e pyjamas) paired with converse and a leather stowaway (a toilet bag basically).
Designer Riccardo Tisci commented on the punk era as a whole stating, “For me punk is mostly about attitude and rebellion. Not following the masses.” Riccardo wore a black suit.
