Over the last few weeks writers and bloggers have been hounding me constantly with one important question. What are my thoughts on bow ties? Let me put your minds at rest, the answer is I love them. I don’t wear them too often but I think they are pretty awesome providing they follow a few simple key rules.

First, they can’t be oversized. It reminds me of a clown and I really don’t like clowns. Nobody wants to be reminded of a clown. The shift on the emphasis of Geek Chic makes an oversized bow-tie bearable, however bow-ties really should be kept to a specific size and that size should be average at best.

Second, your bow-tie repertoire should also contain at least one check number, one tweed and one plain. Why? Because the bow-tie is a statement of the preppy and collegiate trend. I’m all for studs and paisley silk prints but sometimes, and especially when it comes to perfecting the bow-tie, you need to go back to basics.

Enter online bow-tie haven, The Bow Club. In 2010 Swedish born Mohammed Naeem Saleem became The Bow Tie Maker who gave up on searching for the perfect bow tie and instead opted to create a bow tie. A bow tie that was easy to wear and could be casually worn everyday. Basically a modern gent’s dream fulfilled.

“Our bow ties have a unique design that makes them exceptionally sharp and easy to use. Each bow tie is delivered, already tied and ready to use, in its own cylinder perfectly preserving the shape. All you need to do is, pop up your collar do a simple knot around the neck, and pull the collar down again. Of course, you can undo the bow tie and tie it by yourself in your own way if you wish.”

“The Bow Club consists of The Bow Tie Maker and his friends and they all take great care, thought and time in the details of the bow ties from creation to delivery, ensuring that every bow tie is unique and speaks for itself.”

Indeed it does folks. All hand-made in Sweden. All consisting of a woollen blend crafting. Not to mention, all bow ties are named after revolutionary Professors/bow-tie-wearers. What more could you ask for?

“Two things are very important to the The Bow Club; great design and the belief that the bow tie can be worn by anyone and at anytime and through their passion this what they work hard to promote.”

The dark blue and black patterned Newton being my favourite to come from the dapper collection. With Pascal and Curie coming in a close second and third whilst the Mendeleev is another personal choice with its rich colour and rustic feel.

The Bow Club also offer a unique service to create your own one-off piece if nothing takes your fancy. All bow-ties available at www.thebowclub.com
