My time in various Reiss stores have always been limited. I am constantly running late to one thing or another when I stop by to have a browse. However I have purchased some of my all time favourite items as a result of my tardiness. Three in particular being an ivory quilted v-neck jumper, a pair of dark brown woollen trousers and a royal blue cropped pea coat. All of which I managed to find at strategic seasonal sales in Hampstead, Regent Street and Belfast. All of which came from the more youthful, more edgier and more vibrant sub-brand entitled 1971.

Notably named after the year in which creator David Reiss founded the company, 1971 made its presence known back in Spring 2010 with denim-led apparel taking centre stage. A surprising first for Reiss and now fast forward three years another precedent is taking shape in the latest collection as the brand moves back in time for a retro inspired range complete with a modern and contemporary twist in a bid to take the line back to the success of its original launch.

“The Reiss customer looks for original and directional design with a strong focus on quality and detail. They expect impeccable service across all channels. Reiss also has great pride in its celebrity following; from members of the Royal family to Hollywood stars, the Reiss offering appeals to the most stylish of celebrities.”

Naturally this description translates to luxury. Something the SS13 collection lives and breathes with high-end, Sports Luxe influences combined alongside casual sophisticated vintage undertones. Other features include minimalist elements with an emphasis on contrasting detailing complete with a hint of print.

“One of our top styling tips for the new season is to create contrast by rolling up your shirt sleeves. Most effective when you wear a coloured printed shirt with a plain white lining, this simple yet stylish technique is essential for SS13.”

As for the colour palette, my favourite comes in the form of the canary yellow variety as seen in a mid-length mac, soft wash chinos and knee-length shorts. “More refined than bold colours, pastels have a playful vibe that makes them perfect for taking a lighthearted approach to your look.” The mid-length mac is of course the standout here and for good reason. It is awesome.

“Eclipse in yellow is a fashion-forward coat that is perfect for making a bold style statement. Crafted from 100% pure cotton, this eye-catching piece features long sleeves, oversized dark brown buttons…Give a classic style a contemporary twist by opting for this stylish mac. Layer it over a tailored navy suit and team with chestnut brogues.”

A double-breasted white blazer is another noteworthy mention whilst the tropical pattern shirts and matching shorts has an overall air of Prada in its design. “The subtle all-over print contrasts the rolled up sleeves perfectly, creating an effortless style statement.”
