Night On Earth

Thur. 28. Nov.

Building portfolios can be tedious work, but for a change from studio shooting Michael and I wanted to shoot something a bit more raw. Between us we decided that shooting in Dublin at night would be interesting, but more so with a cinematic vibe. I had always loved city streets at night, especially in the movies. I wanted blurry city lights as a background and poses that captured movement, darkness with contrasting light but yet not something that looked abstract.

I remember watching a film called ‘Night on Earth’ which followed taxi drivers from different cities driving at night, the lights and colours were the inspiration behind the entire setting.

We used parts of Dublin’s Grand Canal, an acceptably obvious choice for a shoot, straying from the identifiable elements and shooting around the adjoining streets and along the riverside.

Michael styled himself for this shoot as we wanted an authentic street style. The main theme was double denim, a look that can either be very effective and current or adversely a callback to the late 90’s. Michael’s choices here worked perfectly with the skinny black jeans contrasting with the light hues from the denim jackets. We threw some knitwear into the mix, as it was very cold, and this is a great look for this season.

The pictures, to me, tell the story I wanted.
