Having recently attended NI’s largest and one and only men’s catwalk show displaying the very best of Autumn/Winter 2012, I came to realise in under five weeks time 2013 will be rearing its trend-setting head. What better time then as the ground begins to harden with the harsh effects of a nearing December to start calculating our move for Spring/Summer? Here to guide us gently into 2013, the global giant M&S offering a sneak preview of what to expect.

Naturally guys like to keep it cool when the warm weather begins to seep in and M&S promise to do just that on the casual wear front with an emphasis on the Californian-surfer featuring neutral, washed tones with retro prints showcased throughout. Head of Menswear Tony O’Connor said, “Spring/Summer 2013 at M&S menswear sees a return to optimism and colour with an explosion of bright shades and stand-out pieces across the brands.”

Highlighting my favourite colour blue as a key palette, “in shades ranging from pale chambray to intense indigo. Canvas rucksacks, vintage-look round rimmed sunglasses and coloured footwear are easy trend additions to a confident summer.” And a confident gent we might add.

Of course no gent is complete without his trusty tailored suit, something M&S showcased prominently with their Collezione Winter menswear range and their slim fitted Limited Edition suits. “Italian tailoring is a strong inspiration for summer formalwear, with tailoring taking on a softly constructed look in a palette of stone, biscuit and pale aqua and in luxury fabrics including Italian linens and lightweight wools. Formalwear stays key to men’s wardrobes with an emphasis on statement tailoring and considered finishes, and a nod to seventies sartorial style.”

I’m literally buzzing for 2013 Spring/Summer already and if the preview images are anything to go by, featuring the sharp, sophisticated, modern twist on classic tailoring contrasted alongside the cool, casual and smart relaxed styles of the getaway kind, the excitement is in no way premature. Bring it on.
