Mr Start AW13: London Collections: Men

Written by Lewis Cameron

Wed. 9. Jan.

Mr Start, an excitingly British formalwear label, home-grown and established in the vibrant Shoreditch area of London by Philip Start and his wife Brix Smith Smart back in 2008, took to the catwalk on the opening day of LCM offering up an exquisite array of all things tailored and trend savvy alike.

What Went Down: A lot of brown. Be it metallic sheen copper, rust, dirt, chocolate, camel or medium tint. Mr Start displayed a key player for Autumn/Winter 2013 making it crystal clear for all in attendance that the colour brown would be one of nothing but impact and confidence for the modern man. In a variety of British statement overcoats from trenches, to macs and cropped jackets, juxtaposed between classic men’s suiting with a remarkably youthful fit, style and design throughout. Which I am not surprised by, given Mr Start’s specialisation in tailoring suits both off the peg and made to measure and described as ‘the definition of Shoreditch Luxury’.

Noteworthy Mentions: Anything camel. The oversized gentleman’s overcoat trench. The navy and grey, woollen, tweed flecked, knee length coats. The metallic bronze sheen suit was the perfect suit in my eyes and one for 2013’s party wardrobe whilst a maroon Mac offered a refreshing change with a splash of colour.

Beyond’s Best Bits: Again, anything camel. The metallic bronze sheen suit and a midnight blue tuxedo number featuring black embellished lapels which ultimately closed the section.
