A design statement written as follows, “I am not the artist, you are”. Driving a simple message for the identity of Matthew Miller and his label, rooted in the act of re-appropriating art world iconography for the everyman. I.e translating the gallery environment onto garments with a ‘Destroy to create’ mantra, building on the interaction appeal of last season’s slogans featuring objects and materials inspired by stark exhibition spaces.
Laminated artist labels are mounted on wood then slotted into laser cut leather labels on the backs of jeans, while wire rope and concrete are used to recreate duffel coat toggles returning to signature themes of borrowed functionality with a new post-industrial age twist.
Matthew Miller SS14 in three words: Rebellious. Artistic. Revolutionary.
Main features: Anti-elitist sportswear silhouettes. A deconstructed theme. Futuristic design.
Favourite Piece: The black Untitled leather motif jumper.
