Mon. 24. June.
A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet, and following on from her ground-breaking AW13 collection, RCA graduate Martine Rose smells like she’s been rolled up in gold, tossed into some candy floss and then sprinkled with a touch of awesome. Unveiling her amazing SS14 collection as part of London Collections: Men on Monday June 17th and we had the chance to drop by and check it out for ourselves in the form of an artistic and captivating static installation.
Drawing on the elusive and elite feeling of the ‘Martine Rose Man’, Rose has explored the way in which we decorate space and how these spaces are often a reflection and indeed an extension of our own individual style. P.s she is fascinated by chairs. Who doesn’t love a good chair?
Full cut out side panels appear across the collection, trimmed with lingerie style lace embroidery and ribbon as a reflection and representation of windows and curtains. Creating an extremely androgynous view for SS14, Martine has also explored the idea of accepting a prescribed notion of masculinity. Particularly what we accept and define as masculine. Maintaining a heavy sportswear influence with a retro vibe, reinventing them with lace and frills. 70’s tracksuits inspired slim leg trousers as one of the main feature of the new trouser silhouettes with a strong colour palette focusing on the contrasting elements of black and white.
Martine Rose SS14 in three words: Striking. Bold. Androgynous.
Main features: Feminine detailing, retro elements and confident craftsmanship.
Favourite Piece: Cut-out panelled and embroidered white jumper.
