From the moment I laid eyes on NEWGEN MEN designer and Central St Martin’s graduate Lee Roach and his monochrome utilitarian collection for AW13 twelve months ago, I instantly knew I would be following his efforts in the near future.
Fast forward to January 2014 and the fourth season of London Collections: Men and I can safely say I was correct in my assumption, sitting comfortably in the second row at the exciting debut of Lee’s latest collection. A collection mirroring his wave of simplistic and minimalist shapes, structures and silhouettes, creating futuristic and opulent garments with clean and effortless detailing.
Extremely elegant, tremendously luxurious, Lee Roach AW14 captivated modern, wearable high-fashion with a refreshing hint of feminine undertones of the androgynous variety. Contemporary, collarless overcoats, a haunting layered high-neck leather vest, intriguing nude backless tops with single strap detailing and an enchanting new take on the classic biker jacket produced a runway show filled with integrity, sophistication and confidence.
Basically everything Lee Roach has delivered in his previous efforts in creating beautiful, high-end tailoring whilst maintaining his general aesthetic of cutting edge simplicity, minimal luxe and his unique experimentation with interesting materials, described as 'modern formality', using overdyed Japanese cottons, leather, cashmere wool and nylon pushing key modern menswear styles.
I look forward to seeing what Lee Roach has cooked up for Spring/Summer 15’ come June.
