January is always an impressive month for all things fashion week on the menswear front, kicking of proceedings in London, before New York, Paris and Milan. When it comes to all things highstreet related however, January sees the return of the exciting and intriguing offerings from the innovatve and creative finalists of H&M’s prestigious Design Award.
One in particular who immediately caught my eye from the eight participants involved was the colourful and flamboyant clothing of Antwerp designer Devon Halfnight Leflufy. Obviously we all need to take a few seconds to applaud Devon on having a rather spectacular name before we move on to applaud him for his magnificent work.
His work being an amalgamation of print on print on print with a little bit more ‘on print’ for maximum print on print effect. Said extremely quickly, this description almost sounds like an intro to a quirky fashion hit. It is also nevertheless a description accurately recounting Leflufy’s graduate collection ‘True Believer’.
In a nutshell, Leflufly creates luxury streetwear for the adventurous man, dabbling in eccentrically bold and daringly quirky and energetic designs with humorous and fun statement designs. Lasercut tapestry, faux fur jackets, rubber coats, digital print shirts and LA iconography culture infused canvases all come out to play in Mr. Leflufy’s colourful and psychedelic wonder emporium.
Not to mention his latest extravaganza for AW14 goes by the name of ‘Coconut Water’. (Author’s note: I tried coconut water once because red-haired Rihanna was plastered all over the front packaging. Never. Again.) If that’s not an incentive to love Leflufy, I don’t know what is.
Devon Halfnight Leflufy is originally from Vancouver, Canada, recently graduating from the Masters year at the Royal Academy in Antwerp. His luxury streetwear for men has already been stocked by stores such as Opening Ceremony and RA.
